Maia worked in publishing and as a freelance book designer before training as a letter carver. She moved from London to Norwich five years ago when she was accepted onto the Lettering Arts Trust two-year apprenticeship in 2023 to train with master carver Charlotte Howarth.

Her training had an emphasis on drawing and designing letters, starting with learning the Trajan alphabet, while her own letterforms have a strong influence from calligraphic forms made with the pen and brush.

Maia has trained to carve letters in stone and wood, as well as to construct and carve sundials. Her most recent commission has been for the Norfolk Churches Trust and the Friends of Friendless Churches.

Maia has been accepted on to the NCCS as a recipient of the Emerging Maker Award.
